The Research Masters in Linguistics at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands is an education which aims to familiarize students with the basic terms, theories, and methods of modern linguistics and develop them to the point of contributing to their own linguistic research. This education course is ideal for entering the rapidly growing field of linguistics.
The 2-year Research Masters in Linguistics in Groningen exposes students to new methods of analysis which are being used to study speech patterns and the way the human brain employs and organizes them. Language is a key aspect of computer science, human behavior, and cognitive science, and linguistics is the most direct field toward the study of language. This education course includes analyzing texts, listening to people speak, measuring properties of sound waves in the lab, and investigating brain activity in different speakers.
Upon completion of the Research Masters in Linguistics, graduates are fully prepared to enter the field of linguistics, whether it be a position as an independent researcher in the public or private sector, or to continue their education with further training toward writing a PhD thesis.
Admission requirements for the Research Masters in Linguistics at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands are:
- an internationally recognized Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Humanities Computing/Information Science, Linguistics, Speech and Hearing or Language and Culture Studies from an accredited university
- proficiency in English (min. 620 TOEFL or min. 7 IELTS)
