Important to know

As of September 1, 2019, the MSc in International Economics and Business will change its name to MSc in Economic Development and Globalization. Please note that the content of this study programme will remain the same. With this name change, our goal is to provide you with a clearer understanding of what this Master programme has to offer. The MSc in Economic Development and Globalization will give you a better understanding of economic development in a broad sense, including living standards and their growth rate, but also topics such as inequality. When analyzing economic development, we are particularly interested in the role of globalization. This is also a broad term that covers trade in goods and services as well as international investment and capital flows.

Increasing international trade and finance is opening up new opportunities for growth of firms, regions and countries. At the same time, it is posing new challenges as the benefits are not equally distributed and inequality is rising. In the one-year Master's degree in International Economics and Business you will learn the tools to grasp the complex relationships between globalisation and the economic development of regions and countries.

You will use state-of-the-art economic theories to discover the impact of global trade and of financial globalisation on economic growth and welfare. As you develop your skills, you will learn to recognise the forces that shape geographical patterns of economic activity. You will learn to advise firms and governments on how to reap the benefits of globalisation and international value chains.

For those seeking to augment the one-year programme in Groningen, there are four possibilities to follow a Double Degree: with Fudan University (Shanghai), the University of Göttingen (Germany), Lund University (Sweden) and Corvinus University (Budapest).
