Program description

Study a masters of law in public international law

Imagine a peaceful, prosperous and environmentally sustainable world society respecting human dignity and social justice. Would this be possible without international law?

Don't dream, make it a reality! Develop ideas about how to improve international law and acquire the skills to advise your government, an international organization, a company, individuals, or groups.

The program is designed to provide an optimal mix to ensure the realization of our goals in the field of knowledge dissemination and the training of academic, legal and practical skills. Within these parameters the program offers some flexibility in the range of courses that can be chosen.

Courses for the masters of law in public international law will focus on:

  • International Human Rights Law (6 EC)
  • International Institutional Law (6 EC)
  • Advanced International Law (6 EC)
  • UN Peacekeeping and Peace Enforcement (6 EC)
  • Settlement of International Disputes (6 EC)
  • International Law in Practice (6 EC)
  • International Humanitarian Law (6 EC, optional)
  • Refugee and Asylum Law (6 EC, optional)
  • Master's thesis (18 EC)
  • International Trade and Development Law (6 EC, optional)
  • Investment and International Law (6 EC, optional)

Students will have to participate in five compulsory courses and the compulsory seminar for this program plus one optional compulsory course. Like all masters, this program is also concluded by writing a Master's thesis, worth 18 ECTS.

Admission requirements

Applicants wishing to apply for the masters in law program should meet the following requirements:

  • GPA of 2.75/4, 3.5/5, 7/10, 70/100
  • Basic knowledge of law
  • If you are not a native speaker of English, you will need to provide proof of English language proficiency (TOEFL: 92, IELTS: 6.5, CAE or CPE)
  • 2 academic references should be provided
  • Applicants must send a motivation letter (max. 650 words). The letter should be written by the applicants themselves; it is not allowed to submit an (official) translation.

Tuition fees

  • Full-time EU/EEA Students: € 2143 per year
  • Full-time Non-EU/EEA Students: € 15000 per year

Qualification

Upon successful completion of the law courses, students will receive a master of law degree.
