Program Description

Adventure Tourism Training
The University of the Fraser Valley offers an Adventure Tourism Training program. British Columbia's growing eco-tourism industry, your own personal drive for physical fitness and outdoor pursuits, and your desire to run your own business could be the perfect combination to launch you into a new career. You want to help people learn how to enjoy challenges in the great outdoors, to experience nature at its best, and to take advantage of the natural wonders around them. People want to explore the great outdoors and will pay good money to do so. An adventure tourism certificate could help you start your own business or qualify you to work in an established tourism company.

Offered through UFV's Kinesiology & Physical Education department, the Adventure Tourism Training program is intended to build a foundation for students pursing a career in outdoor recreation, guiding, recreation program planning, or education. The range of job options once you graduate is wide. The program will expose you to an extensive network of job training opportunities and you will be encouraged to take advantage of them.

UFV's one-year Adventure Tourism certificate program will teach you
the business background of adventure tourism, while also offering courses in the many outdoor opportunities available in this region. During your studies you will be provided with an overview of the tourism industry, with a primary focus on adventure tourism. You'll also examine interrelationships between the eight sectors of the tourism industry, and study the economic, environmental, and social impact of tourism.

The Adventure Tourism Training program is a dynamic program with three areas of emphasis:
- Leadership and communications skills
- Adventure travel skills
- Business training

UFV's Fraser Valley location is the perfect setting for this program. You will be close to serene lakes and wild rivers, a short drive from the majestic Cascade mountains, and an hour away from the ocean.
