Program description

Thinking of a career in teaching? Discover what is involved, the skills and experience required and whether it is the right career for you by visiting the Education Scotland Website

Our MA (Hons) Education leads to a qualification to teach children in the 3-12 years age range (nursery and primary schools). This course, developed in response to recent national recommendations and other developments in teacher education in Scotland, replaces the old traditional BEd Primary Education course. Our combination of primary curriculum content, practical school experience and educational theory will prepare you to teach in both nursery and primary schools.

Admission requirements

The minimum requirement for the majority of our taught postgraduate programmes is an undergraduate Honours degree.

However for many of our Masters programmes you need to have at least an Upper Second Class (2:1) Honours degree, and some may specify the relevant subject they are looking for.

You can find the specific entry requirements for your chosen Masters programme on the course page. This includes details of any specific degree subjects or classification.

All courses at the University of Dundee are taught in English. If your first language is not English you must typically have an IELTS score of at least 6.5 overall (or equivalent) with a 6.0 in Writing and Speaking and a minimum of 5.5 in the other two components in order to be successful in your academic studies.

Additionally, if you require a visa to study in the UK, then you must also meet the level of English required by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). The IELTS standard of English language required for each Masters course is shown on the individual course page.
