BSc Information Technology

INTRODUCTION

This information technology degree will teach you how to design IT products and services that solve real problems. It opens doors to careers in virtually any area of computing and IT.

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?
Our information technology degree focuses on two critical themes: UX (user experience) and user centred design, plus big data analytics. A range of closely related computing and business topics support these. You will become familiar with popular industry software and have the opportunity to take a year in industry.

You need to be highly motivated and have a desire to make IT products and services that are truly user-friendly and valuable.

HOW YOU WILL LEARN
You’ll take part in debates, group and individual work, practical sessions in computer labs, tutorials, seminars and presentations by in-house and guest lecturers.

OPPORTUNITIES AND EXPERIENCES
The team project in year two challenges you to develop an IT product or service for a real client, such as a local charity. The optional year in industry is also a great opportunity to build essential experience.

Derby IT graduates forge careers in all areas of computing and information technology, particularly web and mobile design and data analytics. You could even start your own business. This degree also prepares you for an MSc in Information Technology.

Qualification Offer Further information UCAS Tariff 120 points Your offer will be based on your predicted grades from your core A2s (full A levels), BTEC Diploma etc. We will accept up to 16 points towards the total from level 3 qualifications such as AS (where those AS levels are not taken on to A2 level), the Extended Project, or Music qualifications.  We usually consider an A Level in General Studies as a supplementary qualification. A good application/performance will be taken into account if you do not meet the criteria / offer. M: 24 credits
P: 6 credits Pass Access to HE Diploma with 60 credits with 45 at Level 3 GCSE/National 4/National 5 GCSE Maths and English Grade C/Grade 4 (or above) or equivalent qualification

English language requirements

IELTS overall score at a minimum of 6.0; with at least IELTS 5.5 in each band (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing) or another Secure English Language Test(SELT)at CEFR level B2 or above
