In this practical course, you’ll produce a substantial portfolio of high-quality media production work to impress potential employers.
From exciting competitions to collaborative projects with industry, you’ll be challenged to come up with innovative solutions in a range of inter-related media. Our students work regularly with organisations such as Derby County FC, Film City, Derby Jazz & the BBC. You’ll hone your skills in our professional TV & Radio media studios, supported by an enthusiastic teaching team with extensive experience in the broadcast and new media industries.

Admission requirements
BA (Hons)
You need to have either a HND, Foundation Degree, equivalent to an Advanced Diploma or a 3 Year Diploma in a relevant subject. When you apply, please send us a transcript of the modules you have already studied so that we can make sure that the qualifications are compatible with the top-up Program.

Year 3
Dramatic Direction
This module explores dramatic production, specifically short-form drama production within the Media Production Program. The student will expand upon previous TV production and technical skills and refocus this understanding and skillset in terms of creating a short, stand-alone, non-episodic, dramatic production.
‘Appification’ of TV
With the continual rise and uptake of ‘connected’ TV’s in the home, it is now evident that we are quickly moving beyond the point in which a traditional linear broadcast model of television content creation, delivery and ‘passive’ consumption is desirable as a futureproof model. Therefore TV and all of its aspects need to evolve, as we are now within the realms of a more personalised interactive streaming ‘experience’.

Levels of Persuasion
Drama is about emotions, captivating the audience and holding them for a period of time so you are able to deliver an effective narrative. During this print-based module, the student will not only further develop their print-based design skills, the student will also explore how print-based promotional material can also be used to capture a viewer’s imagination and create emotional responses to draw them in and hold them, and ultimately influence them.
Sounds Dramatic
This module forms part of the radio practice strand in the Media Production Program. You will be expected to refine your creative, editorial and technical skills in radio production to a professional standard, whether in documentary, experimental soundscape, magazine Program or drama. The module will involve critical listening, live production and will explore a range of radio genres and emerging forms across different platforms and strands of the industry including podcasting.
Advanced Documentary Production
This module forms part of the television practice strand in the Media Production Program and will allow the student to further expand and develop your skills in Documentary production beyond those in level 5. This module will help you develop more advanced techniques in the art of producing documentary as well as building upon the awareness of media ethics and issues in media production.
