BA (Hons) Magazine Journalism with Foundation Year

Our foundation year offers the chance to strengthen your skills, knowledge and confidence – with extensive support from our expert staff – before you advance to stage one of your honours degree. It could also be beneficial if you are planning a career change and want to get to grips with aspects of subjects which are new to you.

Aspiring magazine journalists can take many career directions – from lifestyle titles to business journals, print to digital publications. This course helps you break into a highly competitive but thoroughly rewarding profession.

UCAS Tariff 72 points Your offer will be based on your predicted grades from your core A2s (full A levels), BTEC Diploma etc. We will accept up to 16 points towards the total from level 3 qualifications such as AS (where those AS levels are not taken on to A2 level), the Extended Project, or Music qualifications.  We usually consider an A Level in General Studies as a supplementary qualification. A good application/performance will be taken into account if you do not meet the criteria / offer.

Access to HE Diploma Pass Access to HE Diploma with 60 credits:
45 at Level 3
15 at Level 2
GCSE/National 4/National 5 GCSE Maths and English are preferred, however, if you don't have these qualifications you will be able to undertake Maths and English at L2 as part of your course of study.


English language requirements

IELTS overall score at a minimum of 7.0; with at least IELTS 5.5 in each band (Reading, Listening, Speaking, Writing) or another Secure English Language Test(SELT)at CEFR level B2 or above

How you will learn

You’ll gather information, conduct interviews and write wide-ranging articles and features. Where possible, you’ll work with professional magazines and see your work published. We also help you become adept with latest technology in our newsroom, Mac and video editing suites, and radio and TV studios.
