BA/BSc (Hons) Theatre (Joint Honours)
As part of the Joint Honours Theatre programme, you will have opportunities to develop your theatre making skills in writing, devising, directing, and applied theatre.

This dynamic and exciting Joint Honours Theatre programme is taught by practising professional artists with expertise in their own fields. Built around process, experimentation and risk taking you will encounter a range of practices to explore and develop your theatre making skills. An exciting part of your studies is the opportunity to engage with professional work experience within Derby Theatre or partner organisations, which will contribute to the development of your professional portfolio. You can also take part in public performances including studio theatre spaces, and off-site in the community, schools, and art centres.
Derby Theatre - a Learning Theatre
Many of your theatre modules will be delivered at Derby Theatre, a fully equipped, professional theatre and major live performance venue, allowing you to gain valuable industry experience and contacts as you learn.
Derby is the only UK University to own and run a professional producing and learning theatre, Derby Theatre, a major live performance venue. Your course is delivered as part of the Learning Theatre initiative funded by Arts Council England and offers both real-world industry experience as well as the opportunity to work with students across our performing arts programmes in a broad range of productions.
Derby Theatre is the lead partner for Derby’s Cultural Education Partnership. Working together with cultural partners such as Déda and QUAD, the Theatre works to provide an exciting cultural education offer for young people.

Derby Theatre won the Excellence in Arts Education Award at the annual UK Theatre Awards, in recognition of its learning theatre vision which has transformed the venue and provides opportunities for young people to take part in high-quality arts, sports and cultural activities across the city. The award was also in specific recognition and celebration of This is Derby, a unique project delivered by Derby Theatre and other cultural and sports organisations in the city, including Derby County Community Trust, Cultural Campus: Derby's Cultural Education Partnership and the City's Sports Forum.

Your offer will be based on your predicted grades from your core A2s (full A levels), BTEC Diploma or equivalent L3 qualifications including any specific subjects for your chosen combination. We will accept up to 16 points towards the total from level 3 qualifications such as AS (where those AS levels are not taken on to A2 level), the Extended Project, or Music qualifications. We usually consider an A Level in General Studies as a supplementary qualification.
