Program description

M. in Secondary Education Teaching (Mathematics)

The degree offers pedagogic and didactic training required for the professions of Teaching in Compulsory Secondary Education, in A levels/High School, Vocational Training and Language Teaching. It is a compulsory requirement for entering the Teaching body. The entry to official Master studies requires a Spanish official university degree or one issued by a higher education institution in the European Higher Education Area that enables access to Master studies in the country of issue of the degree.

Degree holders from non-EHEA education systems may also enter these Master studies without recognition of their degrees, once the University has verified that they accredit a level of training equivalent to the corresponding Spanish official degrees and that their incoming degrees are sufficient for access to postgraduate studies in the country of issue of said degrees. This Master is required for teaching in Secondary Education at the education centres of all regions in Spain.

Qualification

The basic objectives of a degree intended to initiate future teachers in Secondary Education in their training for teaching should be the following:

  • Encourage development of a global and analytical view of current social, cultural and environmental issues.
  • Promote a positive and critical attitude towards development of the teaching professional identity.
  • Integrate professional experiences with training processes, through critical thought about everything experimented or learned.
  • Encourage colaboration with the rest of professionals in the education sphere and, particularly, with the management staff of the teaching centres.
  • Promote the use of research processes in class as a basis of their professional development.
  • Favour an adequate cultural, personal, ethical and social training for the teaching profession with the scientific rigour required for the teenage education sphere.
  • Encourage understanding the relations among learning models, the school context and the didactic options required in action during teaching.
  • Incite recognition, analysis and attention to the differential features of students, according to their evolutionary development, and family social and cultural contexts of reference.
  • Know the specific teaching professional competences of each speciality and their relation to the rest of competences though transversality mechanisms.

This degree qualifies the holder for teaching, in the entire country, the different specialities which are offered

Continuing studies

The university degrees of access correspond to the chosen speciality. If the incoming degree does not correspond to the chosen speciality, students must pass an access test accrediting the competences related to the chosen speciality.

Profficiency in a foreign language, equivalent to level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, must be accredited during the preinscription period (DUA).

Career opportunities

This Master is required for teaching in Secondary Education at the education centres of all the autonomous regions in Spain. It enables access to doctorate studies approved and offered within education.

It allows for teaching in the different fields of knowledge.
