The course introduces students to advanced study of American culture and society; it aims to deepen and widen students' knowledge of major topics and issues in American history; literature; politics and other relevant fields as well as enable them to develop a significant measure of expertise in the subject chosen for the thesis; a key objective of this will be the development of students' cognitive and critical skills to a high degree; plus a research seminar which runs across both semesters and is linked to the preparation of the thesis which should be 10,000-15,000 words.
