Drawing on the past while looking to the future is central to what we do in UCC. If we were to ask people 500 hundred years ago what they wanted from life, it would simply have been to be healed and housed, fed and fuelled, while living in a just society, where they were safe and free. That answer is still true today. In our modern world, it is the university’s place to discover how to realise these aspirations for humanity, now and into the future. Our spectacular and dynamic campus serves a community that is both local and global.
Diversity nurtures the fertile fields in which great ideas grow. Today, UCC’s student body of some 20,000 includes over 2,800 from 100 countries across all continents. Our graduates today become lifelong members of UCC’s community, which numbers in excess of 150,000 graduates, circling the globe. Our wonderful alumni are found excelling in every walk of life throughout the world, from poet to politician, physician to philosopher, parent to friend.
We are a university in the community, of the community and for the community. We are leaders in providing access for those from the community who seek to learn and understand. At our heart is teaching and learning, now based on discovery and understanding, and we appy that discovery and learning for the good of all people. We educate our students to observe and question, to discern and reflect, to analyse and act, and to be independent thinkers and explorers, competent at navigating and bridging the fissures of faith, politics and perspective that fracture our world today.
