T-level Health - Level 3 T-level Technical Qualification in Health

Do you aspire to a career working within the health sector? If you are looking to earn a qualification that will help you progress towards higher education and jobs within this field, our T-level Health Level 3 course will provide you with the core knowledge and skills required to help kick-start your journey to your future.

University College Birmingham is one of the first colleges in the UK to offer the new T-level qualification, which combines learning in the classroom with gaining vital ‘on-the-job’ experience. On our two-year health course, you will learn about working within the health and science sector, good scientific and clinical practice, infection prevention and control in health-specific settings, alongside developing key practical and technical skills sought after within the sector.

Admission requirements

Entry requirements

  • You will need to be aged 16-19 to apply for this course.
  • You will need a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including English Language and Maths or Functional Skills Level 2
  • You should be committed, enthusiastic and have a desire to succeed in the health care sector
  • School applicants will be required to provide a good school report, which must include attendance

This course requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. University College Birmingham will co-ordinate and fund the completion of the DBS check.

Currently, T-level courses are only funded for 16-19 year old learners. However, the government is currently reviewing T-level pathway for mature learners, which we hope will be available for 2022 entry. Year 2

Supporting the Adult Nursing Team and Supporting Healthcare Core

Supporting Healthcare: Core/Underpinning Requirements

  • Assist with an individual’s overall care and needs to ensure comfort and wellbeing
  • Assist registered health professionals with clinical or therapeutic tasks and interventions
  • Undertake a range of physiological measurements

Occupational Specialism: Supporting the Adult Nursing Team

  • Assist the Adult Nursing team with clinical tasks
  • Support individuals to meet activities of daily living
  • Assist with skin integrity assessments and with the care and treatment of skin conditions

Teaching and assessment

To achieve this qualification, you must demonstrate your achievement of the Core Component and Occupational Specialism Component.

Core Component:

  • Two written examinations
  • Employer-set project (ESP)

Occupational Specialism Component:

  • A case study assessment
  • Two practical activities assessments – one for the core: Supporting Healthcare, and one for the occupational specialism
  • A professional discussion

Qualification

Equivalent to three A-levels, this T-level healthcare course will help you boost your employment prospects by gaining extensive experience on a work placement in a real-world environment, supported by experts in our hired@UCB employability team. By completing this industry-recognised qualification, you could progress onto many different roles (e.g. healthcare support worker in a health setting) as well as apprenticeships or higher education.

Career opportunities

As a T-level student, you will be learning constantly and have opportunities to develop so many skills – some practical skills which will be brand new to you, alongside developing existing skills such as your communication and ability to work within a team. You will also learn core NHS and healthcare values and will be required to demonstrate these throughout your programme and on placement.

  • Healthcare support worker - Average Salary: £18,000 – £21,000
  • Registered nurse - Starting Salary: £23,000
