Course overview

This course is designed to enhance the academic and professional profile of practicing teachers, trainers and graduates working in a range of learning and teaching-related disciplines and situations, including community-based settings and formal and informal education.

You will further develop your advanced skillset and learn how to efficiently deal with complex issues that may arise in the learning environment. You will also hone your analytical skills, evaluating research and studies surrounding education, learning and curriculum.

The opportunity to undertake detailed exploration of education and learning-related issues is provided, enabling you to apply what you have learned to practice in the workplace and to support field research.

If you have a PGCE with 60 credits, you can use these credits towards the course, meaning you could complete the course in 18 months (part-time).

Why should I choose this course?

  • You will develop your academic and professional profile as you specialise in the rewarding area of education and learning.
  • You will be given a choice of specialist modules that allow you to customise your degree to suit your career aspirations.
  • You will learn a variety of industry approaches around communication, mentoring, professional practice and self-development.
  • You will acquire advanced techniques for research which prepare you to become a practitioner-researcher within your discipline.
  • You will gain the proficiency to lead others and inform change within your organisation.

Work placement

If you are looking for further work experience opportunities, our highly experienced hired@UCB staff members have a diverse mix of advisors with experience in a wide variety of areas including early years, education, learning disability, special education, child protection, community service development and management.

At UCB, we understand the importance of work placements within academic study, and our employer contacts say they give preference to students with qualifications who also have experience within the field.

I was able to work for the University in return for funding my tuition fees. It was a huge weight off my mind financially and looked great on my CV. The best part of my course was the fact I was able to select optional modules to enhance my studies and help me tailor the degree to my career aims. It was great to know I could personalise my ma...
