About this program
MSc Molecular Chemistry
Acquire in-depth knowledge in Chemistry (general, organic, analytical and formulation)
The Master's in MOLECULAR CHEMISTRY at the Université Côte d'Azur is centered on a strong theme: Fine Chemistry, Flavors, Perfumes & Cosmetics. It trains high-level executives to master the latest technological innovations in the field of chemistry. After a common first year, the training is program divided into 2 tracks: Formulation, Analysis, and Quality professional specialization in Fragrances & Fine Chemistry as well as a research-oriented specialization. The Molecular Chemistry master’s program targets executive activities (Chemical Engineer, R&D or technico-commercial), state or regional civil servant, but also the possibility of pursuing doctoral studies.
Admission requirements
Master's degree or the first year of a master’s degree (M1) in one of the following fields:
- Chemistry, Physics/Chemistry, Chemistry/Physics, Biochemistry.
- Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Research Master (DEA Chemistry).
Candidates outside the European Community are strongly advised by the faculty to register for their first year of their Master’s in Chemistry, and then follow the initial program procedure with a required diploma.
Admission into the Fragrances & Fine Chemistry Research course:
- Students must hold a Master’s 1 in Chemistry.
- Student applications will be reviewed by a teaching committee to determine eligibility.
- International students coming from select countries* are required to submit their applications through Campus France.
- All other applications must be submitted online via candidate.

Program delivery
The Master’s in Molecular Chemistry is organized over two years. It is based on a balanced approach between theoretical and practical lessons. This program is primarily intended for holders of a license in Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, or equivalent degree. The possibility of direct access to the second year is also offered to M1 students from French or foreign universities with initial training in chemistry and from French or foreign engineering schools.
The first year of the master’s program is common to both tracks and its main objectives are to enable students to acquire a common, solid base of knowledge, and skills, in particular in organic chemistry and analytical chemistry, by deepening and broadening concepts encountered during undergraduate studies; specify professional ambitions by giving students transversal and pre-professional knowledge and skills.
The second year is organized into two distinct and non-shared tracks. It enables the acquisition of advanced theoretical skills in the field of specialization with very strong experimental skills. The first half of the FOQUAL track allows students to complete the knowledge in analytical chemistry, formulation, and quality seen in Master 1; deal with regulatory affairs, English, and business knowledge; begin an internship in a company (alternation) and professional specialization with an elective. In the second semester, the specialization is accentuated by the choice of a "profession" option: Pharmaceutical and Veterinary Industries (IPV) or Flavors, Perfumes, Cosmetics (APC) which deepens the knowledge and know-how encountered in the first semester with the specific techniques required for the field of specialty.
The tracks are both in English and transmit knowledge of a company and include an internship. The first semester of the F2C track allows students to deepen their knowledge in synthesis and analysis, previously encountered in Master 1, in the context of the chemistry of aromatic and medicinal natural substances and their applications; introduce transdisciplinarity through a UE at the chemistry-biology-botany interface; introduce notions of project management. begin bibliographic research work related to the student's internship. The second semester corresponds to a 6-month internship in an academic or industrial laboratory (UE PPR).
Track One
Master’s in Molecular Chemistry (FOQUAL)
ISO 9001 certified since 2003, the Formulation Analysis Quality track (FOQUAL) is an interdisciplinary program spanning the fields of Analytical Chemistry, Quality, Regulations, and Formulation. In the second semester of the academic year, students will have the option to choose between one of the two areas of specializations available for this track, to continue expanding their knowledge while specializing in general chemistry.
To provide students with direct access to the job market, this program is offered as a work-study course. Throughout the year, potential graduates will develop both theoretical and practical skills, as they gain hands-on experience.
Track Two
Master’s Specialization in Fragrance and Fine Chemistry (F2C)
This track aims at providing students with the in-depth core knowledge, both theoretical and practical, in the field of Reactivity and Synthesis Strategies in Organic Chemistry, with a special emphasis on the design, synthesis and characterization of molecules of interest in Aroma and Fragrance Chemistry.
