Program description

Compete on the global market

The Bachelor in Economics at Università della Svizzera italiana in Switzerland is offered by the Faculty of Economics and all classes are taught by professors and lecturers who all have a strong academic record and that have taught and done research in some of the world’s foremost universities. The first two years of the economics curriculum is the same for all students, and in the third year all students are offered a choice between courses in one of three following special fields:

This stream prepares economists who intend to work in public administration, teaching and research, or in one of the big international organisations. Emphasis is placed on disciplines such as economic analysis, economic policy, monetary policy, and international and regional economics.

The Management stream is designed to provide a solid grounding in the management of human resources, production strategies and planning, controlling and marketing of small and medium-sized enterprises, both public and private. The business economist will be called upon to meet challenges in related fields, such as international law, finance, and communication.

The Finance stream trains future graduates to meet the demands and challenges posed, now more than ever, by national and international finance. Switzerland’s financial market (and Lugano’s in particular) are calling for specialists who can handle the theory of financial markets and of risk and uncertainty, without neglecting the juridical and economic aspects. Thus, the Faculty is priming its graduates to face the new and changing circumstances of the banking and financial sectors.
