About this program
Bachelor of Science in Communication
The Bachelor of Science in Communication is a three-year course of theoretical studies that enable the student to acquire also a series of practical tools for the understanding and management of communication and its political, economic and socio-cultural implications. To obtain the diploma in Communication, students must earn 180 ECTS, choosing one of the three possible specialisations:
- Business, markets and society,
- Media Studies and Journalism,
- Culture and Communication Technologies.
The courses are taught is in Italian for the first two years, while from the third year a number of courses are given in English, with the possibility to learn other languages as well.
Admission requirements
Swiss school-leaving certificates received in Switzerland and abroad
- Maturità federale and Maturità cantonale recognised by the appropriate Federal Commission;
- Maturità commerciale cantonale (Scuola cantonale di commercio, Bellinzona);
- Final diploma from a university of applied sciences or diploma of a technical college recognised by the appropriate federal authorities: in these cases, where the field of study selected is the same as the previous one, the single Faculties may recommend admitting candidates to an advanced level of the programme and exempt them from particular examinations or from the internship period.
- School-leaving certificates issued by Swiss schools abroad are equally accepted.
Foreign school-leaving certificates
Applicants in possession of foreign secondary education and/or of a foreign university diploma considered to be equivalent are admitted to the undergraduate programme. As a rule, reference is made to the guidelines of the University Admissions Commission of the Rectors’ Conference of the Swiss Universities (swissuniversities). Where equivalence cannot be unequivocally defined, candidates may be invited to attend an interview or to sit a test, and supplementary, pre-university courses may be prescribed.
Italian diplomas
Secondary education (or high school) diplomas conferred by the following types of schools are considered equivalent and therefore acknowledged for admission to the Bachelor programmes:
- Classical Gymnasium (or Lyceum);
- Scientific Lyceum;
- Language Lyceum;
- Social sciences (or Humanities) Lyceum.
The following secondary education diplomas are also considered equivalent:
- Arts Lyceum limited to the Bachelor programmes in Architecture and in Italian language, literature and culture;
- High school degree in Administration, Finance and Marketing, conferred by a vocational high school (or trade school in economics), limited to the Bachelor programmes in Economics, Communication and Informatics;
- High school degree in Informatics and Telecommunications, conferred by a vocational-technical high school, limited to the Bachelor in Informatics.
Admission "by portfolio"
Candidates over 25 years old lacking the above qualifications may be admitted if the Academy judges they have special training and experience revealing an aptitude for design work certified with the application for admission.

Tuition
Tuition fees for the Bachelor's degrees at Università della Svizzera italiana cost CHF 4,000/semester.
Applicants who were residence in Switzerland (including Liechtenstein) upon completion of highschool (Maturità) tuition costs CHF 2,000/semester.

Continuing studies
To pursue studies in communication with a Master's degree is a recommended choice, given the growing demand for specialisation and expertise in the world of work. This is also the choice that most of our students have made in the past and continue to make. The Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society completes the Bachelor's degree in Communication with a number of two-year Master's degrees, according to the 3+2 model defined by the Bologna System. The aim of the Master’s degrees is to provide highly specialised training in the fields of communication, both from the point of view of the profession and from that of scientific research.

- European Studies in Investor Relations and Financial Communication
- International Tourism
- Marketing and Transformative Economy

- Public Management and Policy, PMP
- Those who choose the specialization Culture and Communication Technologies, depending on the chosen curriculum, have direct access (without ECTS recovery) or with an ECTS recovery of maximum 12 ECTS to the Master in Lingua, letteratura e civiltà italiana.
