Master’s Degree in Novel Foods

Master’s Degree in Novel Foods is geared to the study of relationship between food and health, bearing in mind the effect of foods and diet in human health beyond its consideration as an object. It is important to note that novel foods for specific health use represent a booming market, that is must be supported by appropriate scientific evidences.

After completion of Master’s studies, students gain advance training about food science and technology, especially regarding to nutrition, eating and human health, being able to develop novel food products according to scientific requirements, high levels of quality, and complying with European regulations.

Moreover, concerning Food Science and Technology postgraduate studies, some universities offer master’s degree studies focus on nutritional aspects of food consumption, including personalized nutrition, specific food sectors (e.g. Meat, oils, etc.), food technology, food biotechnology, or food engineering, among others. Nevertheless, there are few master’s degree studies focus on health effects of food consumption.

In this way, objectives and competences planned in Master’s Degree in Novel Foods differ significantly regarding aforementioned studies.

Admission requirements

It is compulsory to comply with the general entry requirements established for all the master’s programmes developed in UAM:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree.
  • To people from outside the European Community it is compulsory, at least, an accreditation about similar level of the studies pursued regarding to European bachelor’s studies.

Concerning to specific conditions of Master’s Degree in Novel Foods, Food Science and Technology, Food Science, Human Nutrition, Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemistry or other related bachelor’s studies shall be required.
