Program description

Master's Degree in Modern History: "The Spanish Monarchy" in the 16th ‐ 18th Centuries

The “Spanish Monarchy” was the most powerful political organization in the world during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Its political dynamics were a determining factor in the configuration of the political map of all Early Modern Europe and considerably beyond. Similarly crucial was its ability to create and diffuse its own political culture throughout Europe, even if this was eventually transformed by the 18th-century Enlightenment into a new and modern paradigm of "decadence".

This Master offers a broad and suggestive academic program of specialization in various aspects of Early Modern History, offering an in-depth analysis of the Spanish Monarchy approached in various ways that stress its imperial dimension. The wide range of courses offered focus on the main factors that shaped its development, and which rendered it one of the leadings protagonists of early modern history not only in Europe but also worldwide.

This is an Official Master's Degree that provides access to the doctoral program in Early Modern History at the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), the University of Cantabria (UC) and the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), and follows the official guidelines of the EHEA.
