Program description

Master's Degree in Ecology

The environmental crisis facing the planet occurs both at global scales (global warming, desertification, alteration of biochemical cycles, extinction of species, etc.) and at local scales (disappearance of populations, destruction and fragmentation of habitat, introduction of alien species, etc). Society demands professionals able to propose with innovative and creative solutions to overcome these crises.

It is necessary to understand the causes of the problem of the Anthropocene, and to develop proposals of management of land uses based on the comprehension of the dynamical processes of ecosystems and the recognition of their biophysical limits. The Master in Ecology UAM-UCM taught by the Autónoma and Complutense Universities of Madrid aims to solve these needs through the advanced training of professionals with a deep background in scientific knowledge focused in Ecology and Environment Sciences. We believe that providing to the student a solid training in these former topics must, necessarily, improve their performance both, the professional field and in the research, as well as in finding employment.

From an academic perspective, the main objective of the Master is the advanced academic formation of ecologists able to analyze and interpret natural processes and their interaction with Society. To achieve this goal, it is necessary to generate a solid theoretical training, which is complemented with varied teaching activities, such as laboratory and fieldwork, acquisition of skills in statistical analysis and experimental design, together with the possibility of carrying out external internships in companies. or external organizations.
