About this program

Advanced Standing JD

UNH Franklin Pierce offers highly qualified foreign trained lawyers advanced standing admission to its J.D. program. This program allows foreign lawyers to earn their J.D. in two years. This program is ideal for international lawyers who are also seeking admission to practice law in the United States, particularly because New Hampshire is a uniform bar examination jurisdiction.

Admission requirements

Applicants may transfer in up to 28-transfer qualifying credits for prior law study. Advanced Standing applicants do not need to take the LSAT or another entrance exam for admission, however, if applicable, must take the TOEFL/IELTS test and achieve a satisfactory score.

Visiting and Exchange Students

Students interested in seeking visiting student status at UNH Law may fill out the visiting student application. Visiting students must be in good academic standing and have permission to transfer credits back to their home institution.

International Students

UNH Law requires international applicants with foreign transcripts to submit all transcripts through the LSACCAS. All undergraduate work outside the United States (including its territories) or Canada must be evaluated by CAS.

Foreign lawyers who have earned an undergraduate or graduate law degree from a law school outside of the United States are eligible for advanced standing. Please select applicant type “transfer” on your LSAC application.
