In addition to the comprehensive communication core, communication majors receive training for specialized professional areas according to their interest.

Students who complete this coursework will earn an official criminal justice minor.

COM+Sports and Recreation:This professional track prepares students who are interested in doing public relations for sports and recreation, working in marketing and communication for sports organizations, and moving into the field of sports broadcasting.

COM+Environment: This interdisciplinary professional track draws on biology and civil engineering to prepare students with a passion for sustainability to work as communication experts in conservancy organizations, government departments such as the EPA, and state and national parks.

COM+Strategic Focus: This professional track provides training in a specific field that allows students to pursue specific career goals. Examples might include students who want to work in politics, nonprofit administration, or other careers not addressed in specific COM+ tracks.
