Toulouse School of Economics
Toulouse School of Economics is a world-leading centre for research and higher education, chaired by Nobel Prize Laureate Jean Tirole and the economics department of Toulouse Capitole University. TSE offers world-class undergraduate and graduate programs delivered by renowned researchers. TSE's core focus is economics but courses are multidisciplinary and concentrate on the role that data and quantitative techniques play in decision-making in firms, institutions or states.
TSE’s research-oriented courses train students to use and adapt recent theories or techniques to solve real-world challenges met by their future employers. At master level, depending on their career plans students can choose to major in statistics, decision mathematics, econometrics, public development, industrial organization, environment, biodiversity, or finance.
The Masters program plays a central role in the TSE program. It is divided into four fields, three in economics ("economics", "applied economics" and "econometrics, statistics") and one in mathematics ("applied mathematics, statistics"). It is also divided into three types of tracks:
- The international track Masters degree entirely taught in English
- The standard track Masters degree partially taught in French
- The doctoral track – leading into the doctoral program, with rigorous preparatory courses beginning from the 2nd year of the Masters.
The Doctoral school is modelled on the top American universities. After the dedicated preparatory 2nd year of the Masters’ degree, the PhD candidates follow a 2nd year of advanced, specialized courses before carrying out 3 years of full time research alongside the TSE faculty members.
Throughout each and every program, the school aims to provide high-quality, personalized guidance for all students, via interactive learning, tutor sessions, problem-based group work, experimental economics, etc.
High-level career opportunities
A wide range of career options are open to TSE graduates: managerial positions in banking, insurance, consultancy, international institutions and market regulators where they work as analysts, statistical research managers, consultants and more. Most of them enter easily the professional world thanks to a full careers service and TSE international network of partners. Many also pursue careers in research.
The school also aims to round off the student’s education via close links with industry, thanks to the strong relationships developed by the TSE researchers over the past 30 years with public and private economic actors.
