About this program

BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology with Foundation Year* (*Subject to Approval)

Our BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology with Foundation Year* is a four year degree. The teaching team includes practising criminologists at some centres. Students will develop a comprehensive understanding of cutting edge criminological and sociological theorising and will be able to apply this to current socio-economic policies and conditions. In order to achieve this, students will develop a critical understanding of criminology and sociology in relation to current issues such as urbanisation, embodiment, family, globalisation, marginalisation and migration. Criminology and Sociology will be considered from a fresh perspective using feminist, critical, cultural, and race critiques to revisit societal issues. The course is aimed at students who may not be served by the current sociology/criminology degree courses in research-led universities. The first year is a Foundation Year, which students study alongside our LLB (Law) students and is taught by our law tutors. This year focuses on developing the key skills required to undertake degree level study, both academic and legal/professional related learning. The subsequent three years then follow our full-time BA (Hons) Criminology and Sociology course*. In the 2021 National Student Survey, The University of Law has been ranked first amongst universities in England for the category of 'teaching on my course'. We have an overall 5 Star rating from QS World University Rankings and 5 stars in Teaching, Employability, Online Learning, Academic Development and Inclusiveness. *Subject to approval.
