PhD in Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine

The Teaching Division of Biomedical Sciences offers a wide range of specialization tracks, combining research and studies in medical and life sciences with emphasis on understanding the functioning of the human body in situations of health and disease. Graduate studies include Master’s (M.Sc.) and Doctoral (Ph.D.) degrees on a regular or direct track. The program prepares its graduates for teaching and research positions in academic institutions, and research and work in knowledge-intensive industries, hospitals, and healthcare systems.

Areas of expertise include the understanding and translation of the genetic code into development processes, from the molecular-cellular stage to the creation of a complete body, and understanding the functioning of a single cell and of systems of the body.

Admission requirements

Prerequisites

An individual may apply for doctoral studies if he/she meets the following conditions:

  • Holds a Master's degree with thesis from the Hebrew University, or from an institution of higher education in Israel, or from a non-Israeli institution of higher education, recognized by the Hebrew University, with the following grades:

Master's Degree – minimum grade 85;

Master's thesis – minimum grade of 85 (90 in Humanities);

Master's final exam – minimum grade 85 (wherever applicable)

or -

  • Studying in the final year for Master's degree with a thesis at the Hebrew University, or at an institution of higher education in Israel, or at a non-Israeli institution of higher education, recognized by the Hebrew University, with a grade average of 85 at least. A decision on acceptance will be conditional. or -
  • Studying at the Hebrew University in the direct Ph.D. track, and successfully completed the requirements of the track in the faculty to which he/she belongs.
