About this program

Smart Cities

Our Smart Cities program is one for those of you looking to discover smart solutions to city design and urban-tech utilization. 

This program will help you explore the issues that face cities around the world, mainly due to the unprecedented growth of population and urbanization over the last few decades.

With the 2020 pandemic also impacting, you’ll learn why the smartification of cities has fast become an urgent and essential issue. 

You’ll learn how the interactions we experience in a city affect future behavioral patterns, and how the appropriation of the smart city by its citizens is a major component of urban-tech utilization. Using Tel Aviv as the backdrop -Tel Aviv was crowned “The Smartest City In The World” in 2014 - you’ll also explore how to integrate urban data from different sources, as urban life transforms increasingly into digital life.

Expect some compelling insights into the current human condition in relation to the cities in which we live, from economic, ecological, and societal aspects.

Admission requirements

This program is open to undergraduates enrolled at accredited higher education institutions who have a grade point average of 80% (3.0/4.0 scale) and above.

No previous coursework in Smart Cities is required, although some prior knowledge of or interest in subjects such as Urban Planning, Sociology, Information Systems, Entrepreneurship, Computer Science, etc. is recommended.

English Language Requirements:

All applicants applying to TAU International English-medium programs who are from non-English speaking countries or are non-native speakers of English must provide proof of English proficiency. Applicants can do so in one of the following ways:

  • By submitting an official and original test scores for IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge exams. The English proficiency tests scores must show that the applicant is at the B2 level on the CEFR:
    • IELTS Academic: 6.5, all test components need to be in the B2 range
      • We don't accept IELTS General Training
    • TOEFL (paper): 550 */ TOELF iBT (internet): 79**, all test components need to be in the B2 range
      • We don't accept TOEFL ITP
    • Cambridge B2 First / C1 Advanced/ C2 Proficiency - Passing grade (A, B or C).

By submitting an official and original letter written by an English language expert from a recognized academic institution testifying that the applicant is at the B2 level or higher on the CEFR.

Program delivery

In case of restrictions connected to the COVID-19 situation, please note that this program has put in place an alternative of long-distance learning. If physical presence is not possible, you will be able to participate in your courses remotely and once permitted, resume them in person without this affecting your ability to complete the program.

During the fall semester, the program will be operating under a hybrid model offering in-person/online classes. If physical presence is not possible, you will be able to participate in your courses remotely and complete your program within the scheduled timeframe.
