Program description
Semester / Year Abroad at Tel Aviv University
Expand your horizons as you live and explore the growing city of Tel Aviv while taking part in the academic excellence of Tel Aviv University for a study abroad semester or full year. Tel Aviv and its booming population, innovative spirit, edginess, beautiful beaches and 24-hour lifestyle gives the city a cosmopolitan flair that makes it a perfect destination to spend a semester or year while studying at a world class institution. Located in the heart of Israel, Tel Aviv provides easy access to the entire country. TAU’s campus is only a short 30-40 minute bus ride or even a 30 minute bike ride away from the city center.
Should we tell you more? Here are the advantages to studying abroad with TAU:
Unique Study Abroad Coursework
While studying abroad, students have the chance to study a wide variety of coursework across many disciplines. Many of the courses have a unique connection with Israel and/or the Middle East region, and therefore give unparalleled insight into the subject matter. The study abroad experience begins with a mandatory intensive Hebrew language course, called an Ulpan, to first prepare students for life in Israel (note: students at Hebrew Level 8 or above are exempt from mandatory Ulpan). Following mandatory Ulpan, study abroad students enroll in 4 courses during the semester and can choose from a variety of fields and courses offered in English. Check out the study abroad Curriculum section of this site for more detailed information.
Gain Professional Experience
In the current competitive global environment, interacting cross-culturally in the workplace is an investment for your future. To gain global professional experience while studying, students may consider choosing the Study abroad & Internship program for an additional program fee. TAU International internship programs are customized according to a student’s experience and interests, and enables a student to gain valuable work experience, explore potential career paths, build a network of contacts and learn from professionals in the field.
Immersive Cultural Activities and Excursions
Our Student Life Team (“Madrichim”) organize a wide variety of events and activities for our study abroad students throughout the semester, including several overnight excursions within Israel. Examples of past activities include Tel Aviv neighborhood tours, student welcome and farewell receptions, karaoke night, international pub trivia, Israeli film nights, “Krav Maga” workshops, and much more. Study abroad alumni have raved about the activities and excursions our Student Life Team organizes and we are proud to have these as an integral part of our study abroad program.
Lively Campus Life
TAU’s campus is centrally located in the Ramat Aviv neighborhood, a short distance from the city center and the beach. While on campus, you will get to enjoy our beautiful 220 acre green and lively space filled with 30,000 students - many international students but many locals as well. On campus you will find many libraries, cafes, cafeterias, a student pub, great outdoor sporting facilities and also indoor sporting facilities. As a student you will have access to a discounted gym rate which offers three pools (one Olympic sized) a great indoor gym and an always visited gymnasium. There are tennis courts on campus, as well as volleyball courts spread out throughout the open areas.
Most of our students choose to live in our conveniently located fully furnished, modern student housing located within walking distance from the University campus. Housing includes 24-hour security and supportive resident counselors called Madrichim. As part of the TAU International community you don’t have to worry about a support system, since we work really hard to give all of our international students personal attention.
