Independent Research Study Track

Our Independent Research and Study Track (IRST) program is ideal for those of you looking to broaden your research and independent study skills, or those of you joining TAU as part of an exchange agreement.

With over 130 research institutes, 400 labs, and 3,500 annual projects spread across our 9 faculties and 125 different schools, it’s easy to see why TAU – internationally renowned for its research and innovation – is an institute of academic excellence. There are also empowering independent opportunities on the TAU campus via which you can pursue your scholarly interests.

This program is a great enrollment option for researchers and those generally looking for the dynamism of a comprehensive campus program. Although no academic credit is awarded for the IRST program (unless a student enrolls in a TAU International course in addition to their research), students can take advantage of the many student service benefits that the program provides.

Admission requirements

Application open to undergraduate or graduate students enrolled at accredited institutions of higher education with a 3.0 GPA (80/100).

To apply for the IRST track, students must first have independently arranged an opportunity on campus with one of the TAU institutes, labs, projects, or faculty.

English Language Requirements:

All applicants applying to TAU International English-medium programs who are from non-English speaking countries or are non-native speakers of English must provide proof of English proficiency. Applicants can do so in one of the following ways:

  • By submitting an official and original test scores for IELTS, TOEFL or Cambridge exams. The English proficiency tests scores must show that the applicant is at the B2 level on the CEFR:
    • IELTS Academic: 6.5, all test components need to be in the B2 range
      • We don't accept IELTS General Training
    • TOEFL (paper): 550 */ TOELF iBT (internet): 79**, all test components need to be in the B2 range
      • We don't accept TOEFL ITP
    • Cambridge B2 First / C1 Advanced/ C2 Proficiency - Passing grade (A, B or C).

By submitting an official and original letter written by an English language expert from a recognized academic institution testifying that the applicant is at the B2 level or higher on the CEFR.
