Bachelor in European Studies
With the European Studies programme you get to explore current affairs in Europe, develop your international and practical insights and work on your personal development. You will graduate with a broad knowledge of Europe, extensive cultural awareness and communication skills indifferent languages so as to be optimally prepared to handle European and international matters effectively. Whether you work at local, regional, national or European level, you’ll be able to make a difference in a single Europe.
The curriculum is based on our Design-Based Education principles. This means you will work in small groups on practical assignments from the field. The course covers a range of subjects including European law, governance, economics and public administration as well as multilingual communications skills and cross-cultural awareness. You spend a part of your studies abroad following a minor at a partner location and/or doing an internship in a company operating in the field of European policy, legislation or politics.
The international experience you gain in the field while taking this degree means you can start work in a wide variety of areas. You could work for government agencies at a local or national level, but also for NGOs, political parties and policy departments in companies and organisations focused on Europe. You could take on a position as a lobbyist, policy advisor for a government ministry, public affairs consultant, international project work or European Union specialist for municipal or provincial authorities.
Admission requirements
Academic
To be admitted to one of our 4-year bachelor programmes, you will need to meet the admission requirements as outlined in Dutch Higher Education law. For 4-year bachelor programme at NHL Stenden, you need a diploma that is at least equivalent to an NLQF 4/EQF 4 level (Dutch/European Qualifications Framework)* and comparable to the required Dutch diploma.
Language
All non-EU/EEA applicants are required to submit an English proficiency test with their application to show that their English language skills are at a high enough level to succeed in their studies.
NHL Stenden University of Applied Sciences accepts four kinds of official language tests in accordance with the Code of Conduct International Student in Dutch Higher Education:
- Academic IELTS 6.0 (with an advised minimum of 5.0 for each skill)
- TOEFL 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based) or 80 (internet-based). Original test results must be sent directly from the Educational Testing Service to NHL Stenden. The TOEFL institution code for NHL Stenden is C652.
- Cambridge ESOL score FCE-C (169, or higher).
- TOEIC 670 (Listening and Reading) and 290 (Speaking and Writing).
