The international environment encompasses the institution as a whole, its campus sites abroad, a vast variety of English-taught study programmes, worldwide internship opportunities and its student diversity with more than 90 nationalities amongst a total of 11,000 students.

Established in 2008 as the result of a merger between CHN University Netherlands and Drenthe University, Stenden University of Applied Sciences has a communal vision of education which aims to acquaint students with their future professions as much as possible already during their studies. Students’ preparedness for the real world working environment with its unique challenges is the central focus at Stenden University of Applied Sciences. 

The educational concept Stenden University of Applied Sciences follows is called Problem Based Learning (PBL). This method is used to stimulate self directed learning, creative problem solving skills and the ability to perform in a diverse working environment.

As an international educational institute, Stenden University of Applied Sciences also has its own branch campuses all over the world, including Doha (Qatar), Bangkok (Thailand), Port Alfred (South Africa) and Bali (Indonesia).

Stenden University of Applied Sciences offers a wide range of English-taught Associate, Bachelor and Master Programmes. These programmes are offered in the fields of Business and Management, Media and IT and Social Work and Education. As part of the their studies many students undertake paid internships up to 10 months at internationally renown companies.

Students at Stenden University are encouraged to gain international experiences during their studies. Stenden's Grand Tour programme is the ultimate study abroad experience, where students can choose to follow part of their regular study programmes at one of the other international branch campuses. Alternatively they also have the option to take part in an exchange programme with one of 120 partner universities worldwide.  Lastly,  students get to choose an internship, optional minors, or regular semesters in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and/or Africa.

The university focuses on your development from a personal and a professional point of view. It also prepares you for the real world thanks to practice that you have in the Stenden Hotel, where you cover the role of a supervisor or a manager during the second and third year.
