Environmental and Sustainable Building Engineering
The Master’s programs (second cycle – 120 ECTS) Sustainable Building Engineering, given in Rieti, is aimed to educate a Master Engineer, aware of the goals of the Agenda for Sustainable Development released by United Nations, with a specific relationship to building engineering, such as: to develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient buildings and environment; to upgrade them and retrofit industries to make them sustainable; to facilitate sustainable and resilient city and territory development; to reduce the number of deaths and the number of people affected by disasters, including water related disasters, water resources lack and seismic related ones, with a focus on protecting the poor people in vulnerable situations, due to, also, groundwater resources supply scarcity; to reduce the adverse pro capita environmental impact of cities, also by paying special attention to air quality and “municipal and other” water, wastewater and solid wastes management;
Admission requirements
To be admitted to the master’s degree programs in Environmental and Sustainable Building Engineering, students must hold the bachelor’s degree or a three-year university diploma got abroad and recognised as being equivalent to the following titles: Civil Engineering, Building Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architecture, Construction Engineering. If students have achieved the bachelor’s degree or a three-year university diploma in Italy, they must also have the curricular requisites and personal skills implying a suitable mastery of knowledge and methods which are preliminary and consistent with the master’s degree programs

Learning Outcomes
The Masters Degree in Environmental and Sustainable Building Engineering based in Rieti aims to train professionals who, thanks to a relevant in-depth and interdisciplinary technical preparation, are able to work as designers, production and site managers and inspectors in the civil constructions and soil defence sectors, in the waste and environmental resources management sectors, focusing on water resources, identifying issues and problems, analysing their complexity, developing suitable and appropriate solutions, also by developing innovation, management and implementation processes.
Using an interdisciplinary approach, the Study programs achieves these objectives by providing an in-depth knowledge of the subjects already studied during the Bachelors Degree in the fields of mathematical physics, history of architecture and construction techniques, and of the tools and forms for the study and representation of the built and natural environment.
Secondly, the Study programs allows students to learn the characterizing subjects of environmental and sustainable building engineering, focusing on the following sectors:
technical, construction, structural and installation, of the organization and management of the building process and environmental systems, of safety, of the sustainability of the adjustment, transformation, planning, and possible safeguarding processes of the physical environmental context, of the quality assurance of processes and products, of the restoration of the existing building stock, of the planning and the complex management of the processes and the services connected with environmental and territorial systems.
