Program description

Engineering in Computer Science

The aim of the course is to train Computer Engineers with specific expertise both in the sector of Computer Science, focusing on software applications, and in the sectors of information processing systems and security, assessment of system performance, and optimization of information processing and network systems. The course prepares students for the following jobs:

  • Software analysts and engineers, able to design, develop, modify and optimize software applications based on the needs of final users; analyse data processing problems for different computing needs and develop, identify and optimize information processing systems; design, integrate and verify software employed in web applications.
  • Engineers for the planning and management of systems and networks: these professionals identify and optimize ad-hoc information management systems; plan and implement security measures for information systems to regulate data access and prevent unauthorized data access

Admission requirements

Admission to the master’s degree programs in Computer Science Engineering is subject to the following criteria for the assessment of curricular requisites. Students will have to previously undergo an assessment of their academic career and will be admitted if the overall amount of the recognisable ECTS in the basic and core subjects of the following scientific disciplinary sectors is higher than 96. According to the evaluation of the students’ academic career, a special curriculum will be formulated that may provide for a differentiation up to maximum 36 ECTS

Graduates from the Master of Science in Engineering in Computer Science must have sound skills and broad scientific knowledge in order to be able to interact with experts from all the fields of engineering and from the economic-management area. Thus, graduates in Engineering in Computer Science should have comprehensive and extensive knowledge of engineering disciplines, ad-hoc computer skills and sound competencies in planning and design methodologies.

The curriculum of the master of science was developed based on the assumption that students should have preliminarily acquired knowledge of basic scientific skills and of engineering disciplines. To this end, the Master of Science in Engineering in Computer Science, provides several courses of studies depending on the type of degree and the curriculum of the candidate.

The curriculum includes a set of disciplines that are essential for the training of graduates from the Master of Science in Engineering in Computer Science.

Thus, the curriculum is organized based on several courses, which will lead students to acquire fundamental competencies for their future career and specific knowledge in one of the key sectors of Computer Engineering.

Courses are provided in English; this organisation allows international students to access courses and fosters students’ integration, as well as to exchange knowledge in an international context.

The completion of the curriculum, enables students to have deeper knowledge in their specific sector and to improve their communication skills through seminars.

In order to provide ad hoc experience in the development of complex projects and in the solution of complicated problems in the field of Computer Science, the curriculum requires the preparation of a dissertation

Analyst and software design Engineers will mainly work in the field of innovation and of the production development, planning, design and management of complex software systems, in enterprises in the manufacturing and service sectors, the PA, and professional services.
