Awards & Accreditations
The faculty of Business and Economics at RWTH Aachen University is one of the few faculties in Germany to bear the international seal of approval of the renowned accreditation agency Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The first accreditation of the faculty took place in April 2011, the successful re-accreditation in 2016.
With the re-accreditation the AACSB praised the high quality standard in teaching and research, the innovative ability of the faculty as well as the commitment of the teachers. This applies in particular to the extensive e-learning offerings. Worldwide, only 5% of the economic science faculties are AACSB accredited. In Germany, only nine other faculties or business schools meet the high international standards of the AACSB.

Through close cooperation between universities, research institutions, companies and the city administration, Aachen has developed into one of the most important high-tech locations in Europe. The scientific competence available in Aachen has attracted renowned international companies and research institutions such as Ericsson, Ford, Philips, Takeda Pharma and Microsoft.
However, Aachen is also a dynamic hub for start-ups, spin-offs and entrepreneurs dealing with new technologies. Recent examples are the StreetScooter, an electric delivery vehicle jointly developed with Deutsche Post DHL, and the e.Go Life, an affordable electric car.
In addition, a Center for Entrepreneurship has been established to support students and researchers in their start-ups. The RWTH Aachen Campus therefore provides a unique platform for science and industry alike.
With almost 260,000 inhabitants, Aachen has a lot to offer in terms of quality of life. The atmosphere of the city is visibly shaped by the more than 50,000 students at Aachen’s universities (and about 20% are international students!). For the large number of students, Aachen offers a lively culture with many restaurants, cafés, museums and clubs.
The increasing number of students who decide to enroll at the RWTH Aachen University testifies to the pleasant and charming place Aachen is for living. For example, there are lots of sports offers (most of them students may join for free or for a really low fee), student initiatives, or events.
Due to its unique location in the far west of Germany and in the centre of Europe, Aachen is not only a city steeped in history, but also a place where different cultures meet and interact on a daily basis. Aachen is located in one of Europe’s most innovative regions and connects Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
The cities of Cologne, Maastricht and Brussels are within easy reach, as are the major European capitals Paris, Luxembourg and London. Thus, a truly European perspective is omnipresent in Aachen.
RWTH International Academy and RWTH Business School provide some rooms for international students in a flat-sharing community.
In general, availability of university accommodation in Aachen is limited. Therefore, participation in individual allocation procedures is usually required. Because of the demand for university accommodation, it can be necessary to switch to the private accommodation market.
Especially family and couples apartments are very high in demand, so that accommodation from the private market is seemingly mandatory. The majority of RWTH Aachen University's students are committed to the private accommodation market.
There are a number of options for finding private accommodation in and around Aachen. Accommodation on the private market is priced between 290 EUR and 550 EUR per month, of course depending on the size and the number of rooms.
For short-term accommodation, there are many hotels, a few youth hostels, and a boardinghouse located in and around Aachen (reservation is recommended).
