Program description

NZ Diploma L5 Dux will be awarded to the NZ Diploma L5 student who has achieved an average of 80% or higher for all subjects over the entire programme and is the top student in the cohort.

Subject Area: Management and Commerce, Business and Management, Hospitality Management.

Qualifications gained are New Zealand Diploma in Hospitality Management Level 5 (1 year)

6 month Paid industry placement

Graduate

- A further year of study will enable you to gain your Level 6 Diploma

- A further two years of study will enable you to gain your Bachelor Degree

- 120 credits

Year 1 (Semester 1)

Weeks 1-10: Students will be introduced to the food & beverage operation within the PIHMS hotel environment. Learning will be of a practical nature with semester 1 students responsible for delivering the food & beverage requirements of the hotel school. Duties include a la carte table service through to restaurant manager with valuable food production experience gained through work in the PIHMS kitchens.

Week 11: Reading Break

Weeks 12-21: Students will be introduced to several areas of academic business studies including: Hospitality Finance Marketing Management Business Communications and Research.

Year 1 (Semester 2)

Industry Placement

With the assistance of the PIHMS industry placement team students will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills gained in semester 1. This placement focuses on developing skills in the area of food & beverage in paid positions within the hospitality industry.

After successful completion of semester 2, students will graduate with a New Zealand Diploma in Hotel Management Level 5.

Successful students will be able to progress on to the Bachelor of Applied Hospitality & Tourism Management - it is highly recommended that students invest the extra year of study to earn the degree as it can significantly improve career prospects.
