About this program
Translation
The degree in Translation aims to:
- obtain the methodological instruments of research and analysis, in order to develop learning skills, critical choice and reflection that allow an adequate application of acquired knowledge in practical situations;
- develop plurilingual communication skills, deepening knowledge of foreign languages, focusing on one of these and on the mother tongue;
- acquire theoretical knowledge in the field of Translation Studies;
- develop intensive practice of translation into the mother tongue and into the foreign language in specific areas of knowledge;
- develop skills aimed at professionalization in the field of translation, whether in specialized companies or as independent work;
- to develop the capacity of linguistic and cultural mediation of information, ideas, problems and solutions in the most diverse communicative situations;
- to develop competences in the application of new methodologies to Translation.

Program delivery
Duration: 3 years/6 semesters.
The student has to take 180 credits: 42 credits taken in the compulsory subjects program, 126 credits in the conditional options framework, and 12 credits taken in free options.
Semestrally, the student must not enroll for more than 30 credits, respecting the precedence when these have been defined. At the beginning of each semester, the student will be advised on the curricular units to be taken, most appropriate to his/her academic path.
Undergraduate students can also benefit from the different mobility programs in which NOVA FCSH participates, such as Erasmus+, Almeida Garrett, among others, and participate in research work within the research units that make up the Faculty.
