NTU's joint honours degrees give you the maximum flexibility to study subject areas that truly interest you. NTU's FRENCH course is offered as a post A-level subject. This French course allows you to study the French language, country, politics and culture through a selection of lively options, including modules which examine cinema and literature. NTU has a 91% student satisfaction rate for French Studies (NSS 2017). MANDARIN CHINESE can be studied at beginner or GCSE level but if you wish to study the course at post A-level, you'll need an A-level in Mandarin Chinese. You'll develop excellent language skills as well as a broad understanding of Chinese culture and society. This course is ideal for anyone who wishes to understand the history, political and social aspects of two modern languages. It is also ideal for anyone who would like to widen their understanding of other languages and cultures.French at NTU has been created to ensure a quick learning progress of the French language and an in-depth understanding of the societies and cultures in which it is spoken.Our Mandarin Chinese course will introduce you to the modern spoken and written language of Chinese. You'll then focus on the historical, political and cultural background of both languages.This course will help you to gain impressive written, reading and oral skills of both languages whilst developing your accuracy and fluency. You'll also have the exciting option to either work or study in France or China during your third year to utilise your knowledge and gain independence in a foreign country and learn how to adapt to the working world. To help improve your career prospects you'll be able to take a final year module that has been specifically designed to help develop your translation and interpreting skills. You'll be taught using the latest language-teaching methodologies and CALL technologies. Alongside this, you'll also have access to our resource centres and computer aided language learning software. This course will help you to adapt to different situations and cultures within your professional and personal life and can help you t stand out within the competitive graduate market. This joint honours degree will prepare you for a range of national and international careers. NTU’s French courses are in the UK's Top 15 for student satisfaction (NSS 2017). You'll develop strong French and Chinese communication skills and develop a great understanding of the cultures in which they're spoken. You'll gain a strong critical awareness, be able to multi-task, become more intellectually motivated and have a great understanding of two different cultures and the way that they communicate. A degree in modern languages will show potential employers that you're confident, mature and efficient at working independently. During your third year you'll have the opportunity to either work or study in France or China to practically apply your learning of both subjects and to gain independence in a foreign country. 95% of our French joint honours undergraduates are in work or further study within just six months of finishing their degree (DLHE 2015-16). Many firms want to recruit language students who are able to communicate with clients and colleagues in a variety of ways depending on the situation. Having a joint honours degree in a language subject will help you to be considered for numerous roles in the UK and abroad. Some of our most recent graduates have secured excellent roles within the educational sector, civil service, and various media industries. Others are working in exciting and fast paced roles with The United Nations and The European Parliament. Students with a language degree are actively sought after by employers for today's markets and some of our students have been recruited by firms based in East Asia.
