Fine Arts Diploma

Explore printmaking, video, painting, drawing, digital media, ceramics, photography and sculpture in NIC's high-calibre fine arts studios. Develop creative and critical thinking skills as you pursue your career as an artist or transfer to degree programs across Canada.

Admission requirements

  1. C in Provincial English 12, English Studies 12, English First Peoples 12 or NIC ENG-060, ENG-096, or ENG-098; or C+ in ESL-092 and ESL-095; or English assessment.

  • Introduction to Art History and Visual Culture I
  • Introduction to Art History and Visual Culture II
  • Drawing & 2-Dimensional Language I
  • Drawing & 2-Dimensional Language II
  • Painting: Colour & Perception
  • Painting: Colour & Application
  • Foundation Studio in 3-Dimensional Art and Design
  • Creative Processes

Year 2

All students will be required to take:

  • Drawing & 2-Dimensional Language III
  • Drawing & 2-Dimensional Language IV
  • Philosophy of Art
  • Modern Art History

plus 2 courses from:

  • Video + Sound 1
  • Intaglio Printmaking
  • Painting Intermediate I
  • Sculpture and Integrated Art Practices I
  • Ceramics Intermediate I
  • Photography Intermediate I

plus 2 of the following courses:

  • Video + Sound 2
  • Screen Printing
  • Painting Intermediate II
  • Sculpture and Integrated Art Practices II
  • Ceramics Intermediate II
  • Introduction to Digital Photography

plus 2 English courses from the following:

  • Essay Writing and Critical Analysis or Essay Writing and Indigenous Perspectives
  • Introduction to Creative Writing: Fiction & Non-Fiction
  • Introduction to Creative Writing: Poetry & Drama
  • Reading Literature
  • Indigenous Literatures in Canada

Tuition fees

The full tuition price for domestic students for year 1 is $3025; year 2 is $3025. The price for International students for year 1 is $13500; year 2 is $13500.
