Program description

Become a Chartered Accountant or Certified Practicing Accountant. If you are looking to become a Chartered Accountant or a Certified Practising Accountant you would choose to study the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting.

This programme contains all the papers that you need to complete the academic part of your training.

NMIT's Bachelor of Commerce, our undergraduate degree programme, is accredited by the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and Certified Practicing Accountants Australia (CPA).

Career outcomes

An CA ANZ or CPA qualified accountant would expect to be involved in a range of business activities within an accounting firm including giving advice, strategic planning, management and providing financial information to support business decisions, as well as preparing financial reports, auditing and providing tax advice. CA ANZ or CPA qualified accountants can expect to earn between $60,000 and $135,000 per annum.

Industry based learning

The courses in the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting are all designed to meet the requirements of CA ANZ and CPA Australia. Courses are taught with a strong focus on the application of skills and knowledge to meet employer needs.

Admission requirements

Academic requirements

Applicants must have obtained an undergraduate degree in Business or a related area (Subject to TEC/NZQA approval) recognised by CA ANZ or CPA Australia.

English language requirements

All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to be able to study at this level. Those students whose first language is not English are required to demonstrate an IELTS Academic Score of 6.0 with no band score lower than 5.5, issued in the last two years or the equivalent.

TOEFL Paper based test (pBT) - Score of 550 (with an essay score of 5 TWE)

TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT) - Score of 60 (with a writing score of 20)

University of Cambridge English Examinations - FCE, or FCE for schools, or CAE, or CPE with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill

Pearson Test of English (Academic) - PToE (Academic) score of 50

City & Guilds IESOL - B2 Communicator with a score of 66

Special entry

In exceptional circumstances, an applicant who does not meet the academic requirements may be granted entry. They must supply evidence (e.g. of relevant skills, education or work experience) to satisfy the Head of Department (or delegate) of their ability to successfully complete the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting.
