Middle Tennessee State University is a public university in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Founded in 1911, the university consists of eight undergraduate colleges as well as a college of graduate studies, together offering more than 80 majors/degree programs through more than 35 departments and over 300 concentrations. MTSU has been recognized as one of the top schools in the Southeast.
MTSU has the lowest tuition rate of any major university in Tennessee. The combination of high-quality programs, student resources, incredible scholarship programs, and low tuition cost are unmatched in Tennessee. MTSU is most prominently known for its Recording Industry, Aerospace, Music and Concrete Industry Management programs.
With over 300 student organizations there is always plenty to do. MTSU offers merit-based scholarships for international students. These are based entirely on GPA (4.0 scale) in amounts of:
- $4K (3.25-3.49)
- $8K (3.50-3.74)
- $16K (3.75-4.0)
You do not need to apply for the IMS as you are automatically eligible once you are admitted.

Student services & facilities
Campus Recreation’s mission is to serve and educate the MTSU community with recreational opportunities to promote healthy lifestyles in a safe environment. They do this by organizing casual and competitive sports on campus, maintaining an enormous recreation center, and offering a variety of fitness and wellness programs.
- International Students are assigned academic advisors, an international student advisor, and designated immigration advisor in the international admissions office.
- International students have access to career counseling, academic writing labs, math labs, and computer labs.
- 8 state of the art libraries exist on campus.
Student lifestyle
Student Organizations & Service (SOS) provides a comprehensive collection of co-curricular opportunities designed to increase personal growth, leadership skills, and community involvement via participation in student organizations and service opportunities.
The goal of our office is to complement traditional academic programs of study by providing leadership development, service experiences, and exposure to and participation in social, cultural, intellectual, and recreational activities.
With over 300 student organizations based on professional or academic associations, cultural groups, honors, leadership, religion, social or Greek organizations, special interests, or sports, there is something for everyone.
Accommodation
MTSU offers a variety of on campus housing with many different accommodation options. We have 13 residence halls and two apartment complexes on campus. Off-campus housing offers many other other options from apartments, houses, and short term rentals. Our housing office will also provide assistance for off-campus accommodations.
