BSc Sport and Exercise Science
Whether your ambition is to help an athlete smash world records, or improve the quality of life for recovering patients, we can give you the tools to achieve it.
Our Sport and Exercise Science degree covers a broad spectrum of themes across sport and health. You’ll build an understanding of the key disciplines of biomechanics, physiology and psychology, and then have the flexibility to develop specialist skills and knowledge according to your strengths and interests. You'll also have the opportunity to spend an extra year expanding your horizons, working on a placement in industry.
Study Sport and Exercise Science at Manchester Met and you’ll have the support of our team, which includes accredited Sport Scientists and experts who work with business, the NHS, government and international athletes. With our network of local sports organisations and health providers, you’ll have plenty of great opportunities to apply your knowledge and secure work placements.
This course has the following options:
- 3 years full-time
- 4 years with placement route
- A foundation year is also available

Specific GCSE Requirements
5 GCSE’s at grade C/5 or above including:
GCSE grade C/5 in English Language or Level 2 Functional Skills English and
GCSE grade C/5 in Mathematics or Level 2 Functional Skills Mathematics and
GCSE grade C/5 in Science or BTEC Level 2 in Applied Science with grade merit
Non Tariffed Qualifications
Pass Access to HE Diploma in a relevant subject with a minimum of 122 UCAS Tariff points.

26 IB Diploma Points including HL 5 in PE or a Science subject
IELTS Score Required For International Students
6.0 overall with no individual element below 5.5

Manchester Met is offering a scholarship package of £2,000 for every year of study to international students accepted onto a full-time taught undergraduate program that starts in September 2020. If you meet the eligibility criteria, the scholarship will be awarded upon enrolment, no application is required.

Program delivery
You may also be interested in our BSc Sport and Exercise Science Distance Learning Programme. The otherwise part-time Sport and Exercise Science Distance Learning programme has been updated for the next academic year to run a full-time mode available primarily for those students who are unable to travel, or students who have been, and wish to continue shielding and do not wish to defer or suspend their studies for a year. You can transfer to the Distance Learning full-time mode of delivery for the 2020-21 academic year (and then transfer back to the on-site programme for 2021-22).
Tuition fees
- Tuition fee for UK, EU and Channel Island students: £9,250 per year.
- Tuition fee for Non-EU International students: £16,500 per year.
Qualification
A 3 year degree qualification typically comprises of 360 credits (120 credits per year).
Career opportunities
There are a number of careers directly relevant to our Sport and Exercise Science degree. You might want to work as a sports scientist with professional athletes and clubs, within the NHS, or with private healthcare providers. Or maybe you’d like to work as a personal trainer, an exercise professional in a rehabilitation unit, or as an entrepreneur in the leisure industry.
Some of our Sport and Exercise Science graduates choose to go into teaching after studying for a PGCE, while others opt to carry on their studies with a Masters or PhD.
