Earn a Master in Software Engineering
The Master inSoftware Engineering deals with the design and development of high-quality software systems, in an attempt to prepare students for the proliferation and growing influence of software in business and our daily lives. In this Masters degree programme, you will gain a basic knowledge and practical skills in software engineering.
Master inSoftware Engineering-students will acquire good theoretical knowledge and excellent skills in engineering software-intensive systems: designing and implementing systems in the global work place and implementation of large and complex software systems. Software Engineering incorporates component-based software engineering, service-oriented architectures, interoperability, and global system development.
Graduates of the Master inSoftware Engineering will be able to demonstrate understanding of the methodologies and techniques of software management and to apply them to a range of development scenarios. The students will be able to transcend global diversity and work in international teams. The industrial track will involve mentoring and thesis projects related to partner industries such as ABB, Ericsson, Volvo.
One of the highlights of the Software Engineering programme is an industry-sponsored top-talents programme intended for educating software professionals. In 2009, the programme reached new heights of excellence when Malardalen University students represented four out of the ten teams that reached the finals of the software engineering project contest at the ICSE-2009, the top-most software engineering conference in the world, including the winners.
The Software Engineering department at Malardalen University has several internationally acclaimed researchers with proven records of excellence and active involvement in world-leading conferences. The major areas of research at the division include component-based software engineering, software processes, software testing, and dependable software engineering.
Students wishing to study Software Engineering at Malardalen University must meet the following requirements:
- A completed Bachelor's degree from an institution of higher education of 3 years or more, equivalent to 180 credits (180 ECTS credits), of which at least 90 credits (ECTS credits) are within Computer Science or Computer Engineering and at least 20 credits (20 ECTS credits) in Mathematics/Applied Mathematics.
- English B is required for Swedish students. Foreign students are required to submit a TOEFL test result, minimum score 550 with a TWE score of at least 4 (PBT) or 79 with a TWE score of at least 17 (iBT) or an IELTS test result with an overall band score of minimum 6.0 and no band score below 5.0 or equivalent.
