Program description

Master's Program in Language and Linguistics, Several Specialisation Options

The Centre for Languages and Literature is Sweden’s largest research and teaching environment for linguistics, languages, cognitive semiotics, literature, film, and area studies. The MA in Language and Linguistics offers a unique opportunity to study an integrated programme, with obligatory courses in philosophy of science and methods, while allowing you to deepen your knowledge in your specialisation through separate courses. The programme thus combines a broad base with a specific expertise. With an MA in Language and Linguistics, you will be well prepared for further academic studies, as well as attractive to employers looking for highly qualified individuals with knowledge in language and communication.

Admission requirements

A Bachelor’s degree with a major in the specialisation chosen (corresponding to a Swedish major with 90 or 120 credits in the subject) and a completed Bachelor’s degree thesis within this subject. The word count for these written samples of work should be between 6 000 and 8 000 words in total, or longer if the BA thesis itself is longer (excluding the references and possible appendices). English Level 6. Please note that for the specialisation in English Linguistics, English language proficiency demonstrated by an average result of 7.5 in IELTS tests (Academic), with no section scoring below 7.0, is required. No exceptions are made.
