Established in 1899, The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is dedicated to improving health worldwide through training the next generation of health leaders to address major public and global health challenges.

LSHTM has a unique range and depth of work integrating laboratory, clinical, population and social sciences, and delivers a wide range of health programmes, both in London and by distance learning.

LSHTM is famed for its international, cultural, professional and academic diversity. MSc Climate Change & Planetary Health

This is a multidisciplinary programme that bridges the fields of epidemiology, laboratory sciences and public health. It includes the option of choosing modules with a significant practical component and the opportunity to undertake a research project overseas. The programme will train students in all aspects of the control of infectious diseases and prepare them for a career in a range of organisations.

MSc Control of Infectious Diseases

This MSc provides rigorous training in demography and population studies. The curriculum comprises demographic methods and theory, epidemiology, statistics and data analysis.

MSc Demography & Health

Epidemiology is a key discipline for understanding and improving global health. Epidemiological methods underpin clinical medical research, public health practice and health care evaluation, investigation of the causes of disease, and evaluation of interventions to prevent or control disease. This programme covers both infectious and non-communicable disease epidemiology.

This is a joint programme provided by LSHTMand King’s College London. Itgives participants the knowledge and skills to initiate, develop and oversee mental health programmes in low-resource settings, and to conduct and critically evaluate research on global mental health. These skills will equip students to make valuable contributions in research, public health, policy and practice.

MSc Global Mental Health

This programme, supported by Health Data Research UK (HDR UK), aims to train a new generation of world-leading health data scientists, to work in both the public and private sector. Teaching will focus on building strong quantitative, computational and practical data management skills, while providing opportunities to develop key professional skills required to be a successful health data scientist.

MSc Health Data Science

This programme aims to develop critical analysis of issues within health policy, planning and financing and to enable students to devise appropriate health policy responses. Students come from a wide range of backgrounds. This is a joint programme provided by LSHTMand the London School of Economics Political Science (LSE). The course provides training relevant to countries at all levels of development, although participants are able to specialise.

MSc Health Policy, Planning & Financing

This programme combines theoretical knowledge and practical training in the immunology of infectious diseases through comprehensive teaching and research methods. Students will gain specialised skills in applying scientific concepts, evaluating scientific data and carrying out modern immunological techniques. Students will benefit from the unique mix of immunology, vaccinology, molecular biology, virology, bacteriology, parasitology, mycology and clinical medicine at LSHTM.

MSc Immunology of Infectious Diseases

This programme provides comprehensive knowledge and practical training in the spread of microorganisms (predominantly bacterial and viral pathogens), disease causation and diagnosis and treatment of pathogens significant to public health.The increasing incidence of microbial infections worldwide is being compounded by the rapid evolution of drug-resistant variants and opportunistic infections by other organisms.The curriculum reflects the importance of genomics and molecular techniques in both diagnostics and the study of pathogenesis.

MSc Medical Microbiology

This programme provides core training in the theoretical and practical aspects of medical parasitology, covering the protozoan and metazoan parasites of humans and the vectors which transmit them. Students will gain specialised skills to enable them to pursue a career in research, control or teaching related to medical parasitology.

MSc Medical Parasitology

The programme trains students from a variety of academic backgrounds to work as statisticians in various sectors including higher education, research institutions, the pharmaceutical industry, central government and national health services. It provides training in the theory and practice of statistics with special reference to clinical trials, epidemiology and clinical or laboratory research.

MSc Medical Statistics

The programme provides training in public health nutrition in a global setting. An integrated programme covers epidemiological, dietary, public health, social and biological aspects of nutritional science. Specialist topics include: maternal and child nutrition; nutrition in emergencies; nutrition programme planning, evaluation and monitoring; nutrition-related chronic disease. The main programme focus is on nutritional problems in low and middle-income countries – although skills and learning outcomes are widely applicable to all populations globally.

MSc Nutrition for Global Health

This program is delivered jointly by the London School of Hygiene Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) and the Royal Veterinary College (RVC). It addresses a broad range of topics under the One Health paradigm and provides a foundation in the principles of diseases in the context of sociological systems, global health and food safety. Students develop skills related to methodology, transdisciplinary interactions and using a systems approach.

MSc One Health: Ecosystems, Humans and Animals

This programme aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to enable them to address public health challenges through research and practice. It covers the whole breadth of public health, encompassing low-, middle- and high-income countries. It reflects local, national and international public health agendas, and provides the opportunity to explore public health issues in depth with academics, researchers and practitioners.

MSc Public Health

This programme equips students with skills needed to appreciate and analyse the state of public health in low- and middle-income countries and to design and evaluate actions to address public health concerns. We consider public health and the provision of health services from a multidisciplinary perspective.

MSc Public Health for Development

This programme provides ophthalmic professionals with the knowledge and skills required to reduce blindness and visual disability in their populations by developing an evidence-based public health approach for the control and management of blinding eye diseases. It enables students to contribute effectively at a local, national and international level in research, training and service delivery.

MSc Public Health for Eye Care

This programme is designed for those interested in acquiring the research skills necessary to conduct policy-relevant research into sexual and reproductive health. It provides a non-clinical foundation in family planning, obstetric health, AIDS and sexually-transmitted infections.

Distance Learning

MSc Reproductive & Sexual Health Research

This intensive online programme is developed and delivered with theUniversity of Ghana School of Public Health (UGSPH).Itis primarily targeted at those interested in acquiring the knowledge and skills required to design, implement and evaluate evidence-based sexual and reproductive health programmes and policies in sub-Saharan Africa and other low- and middle-income settings.

MSc Sexual & Reproductive Health Policy and Programming

This programme aims to develop the careers of doctors whose interest is the practice of medicine in tropical and low- and middle-income countries. It aims to enhance evidence-based decision making in tropical medicine, international health, and the underpinning disciplines through a wide choice of modules including small group clinically focused teaching.

MSc Tropical Medicine & International Health

This is a joint programme provided by LSHTM and the Royal Veterinary College (RVC) and is supported by policy makers from the forefront of the UK government. There is a shortage of trained veterinary epidemiologists and there are excellent career opportunities for graduates. This course provides training in essential methodological skills for the design, conduct, analysis, interpretation and communication of epidemiological studies; and surveillance and disease control in animal and human populations.

MSc Veterinary Epidemiology

This programme provides students with a theoretical and practical understanding of the issues involved in the design, conduct, analysis and interpretation of randomised controlled trials of health interventions. It is suitable for students working in low-, middle- and high-income countries.

This programme provides students with an in-depth understanding of the planning and delivery of policy responses to global health concerns and issues. It focuses on approaches to effective policy-making which contributes to the protection and promotion of population health in a globalising world, at both national and transnational level.

MSc in Global Health Policy

Humanitarian crises due to armed conflict, natural disasters, disease outbreaks and other causes are major contributors to ill health and vulnerability worldwide. The persisting effects of crises on health and health systems can undermine decades of social development.

MSc in Health in Humanitarian Crises

This programme provides a broad understanding of infectious diseases through the core modules in public health, biostatistics and epidemiology, and the biology and control of infectious diseases which are taken by all students, together with the subsequent opportunities for specialised study in areas of the student’s own choice.
