Policing, Security and Community Safety - Prof Doc

This course is the first ever doctorate degree designed for professionals working in law enforcement, policing, security, government and the private sector. It’s ideal for those wanting to hone their professional and research skills through a PhD-level qualification but with a more practical, career-orientated focus. The course aims to produce professionally competent and informed practitioners who have an understanding of wider policing theories and advanced research skills and abilities. This unique professional doctorate course provides both theoretical and relevant practical skills development for those who wish to further their careers in policing, security, community policing, legal occupations and social research methodology.

Admission requirements

You will be required to have:

  • an undergraduate degree
  • experience as a policing officer or law enforcement professional
  • at least three years of full-time experience in a senior role and already be making a significant contribution to policing policy or processes

Year 1 modules include:

  • Policing, Leadership and Ethics
  • Research Methods 1
  • Research Methods 2

Year 2 modules include:

  • Thesis

Tuition fees

  • UK/EU Students: £1,200 per module (Total 6 modules), £3250 per 12 months for thesis stage
  • International Students: £1,800 per module (Total 6 modules), £5,900 for 12 months of thesis stage

Career opportunities

The course will be of direct benefit to law enforcement officers who wish to progress their careers through a high-level doctoral qualification.
