Graphic Design

Our Graphic Design degree aims to equip you with the skills and theoretical knowledge to work and innovate in the Graphic Design sector and the wider creative industries. The degree is both practically focused and theoretically informed. The principles of collaboration, innovation and individuality underpin the curriculum and the degree aims to create critical and confident graphic designers that will be ready to meet the challenges of a rapidly changing and increasingly technological sector.

The degree is taught at our Creative Campus, which offers the potential for a wealth of collaborative and multidisciplinary learning experiences. You will learn a variety of approaches to visual communication and gain a thorough understanding of studio practice and the design process, including studio based project work, optional live briefs and work placements in established design studios in the immediate local community the UK and abroad.

In preparation for the world of work, the development of rigorous research skills, theoretical understanding and mastery of a range of both technological and physical tools will be developed. Learning will be underpinned by a thorough understanding of the discipline and its context in contemporary society. Alongside traditional practical and theoretical skills, you will develop a deep understanding of established design principles and develop the ability to engage confidently with current professional practice. By the end of the degree, you will have built a contemporary portfolio that will equip you for an exciting future in the sector.

  • UCAS Tariff Points - 112 UCAS Tariff points must come from a minimum of two A Levels (or equivalent). Additional points can be made up from a range of alternative qualifications
  • BTEC - DMM
  • Access to HE - 112 Tariff Points
  • IB - 28
  • Irish Leaving Certificate - 112 Tariff Points from Higher Level qualifications only
  • Welsh Baccalaureate - This qualification can only be accepted in conjunction with other relevant qualifications
  • Subject Requirements - No specific subject requirements

International entry requirements

IELTS - 6.0 overall (with reading and writing at 6.0) and no individual score lower than 5.5. We also accept a wide range of International Qualifications.

The degree will enable you to consider a range of career options and equip you with the skills needed to work in the wider creative industries. Opportunities for further study and postgraduate research are provided, including PGCE and taught Masters programmes such as MA Creative Practice.
