Bachelor in Dance Subcultures

The aim of Dance Subculturesstudy programme is to train a dance art specialist who has the competencies necessary for the professional activity (intercultural, professional, specialist), has acquired a system of knowledge of dance art history, theory, mastered various dance (ballroom, folk, performative) styles methodologies and is able to apply them in practice.

This is a unique first cycle study programme in Lithuania that prepares professional dance art specialists. From the third year, it is possible to choose alternative (ballroom, folk, performative) dance study subjects.

During the study process, the integrated teaching model is applied. In the programme, in addition to the subjects of the main (dance) field of study, subjects of other fields – music, theatre, pedagogy are studied. Students are educated by the most famous Lithuanian dance artists, scientists and there is constant cooperation with well-known professional foreign dance art specialists.

Graduates are able to work as performers or artistic directors of dance groups in various cultural institutions, amateur and professional dance groups, initiate private, project activities of dance education and the creation of new groups.

Admission requirements

Foreign candidates are recommended to apply for a preliminary evaluation, which gives the right to participate in the entrance examinations.

The deadline for the preliminary application is April 1. The results will then be sent to candidates by May 1.

Admission to the first cycle studies takes place on a competitive basis and is open for individuals who have completed secondary education and successfully passed the entrance examination.

The entrance examination consists of three stages: a fitness test, performance of a dance composition prepared in advance, and an admission interview based on questions related to the chosen study programme. During the three stages of the examination, the applicant performs the prepared programme, and the examination board gives assignments to the applicant to test the innate and acquired skills required for the chosen profession. The admission interview enables to learn the applicant's motivation, their ability to analyse and express thoughts, understand how the applicant envisions the chosen profession its prospects.

Program content

This is a unique first cycle study programme in Lithuania that prepares professional dance art specialists. Qualification

Bachelor of Arts

Having obtained the degree of Bachelor of Arts, students may continue their studies in the second cycle (Master’s studies).

Career paths

Graduates are able to work as performers or artistic directors of dance groups in various cultural institutions, amateur and professional dance groups, initiate private, project activities of dance education and the creation of new groups. Upon completion minor studies of Art Pedagogy and acquisition the qualification of a pedagogue, graduates are able to work as pedagogues in various formal and non-formal and/or specialised educational institutions.
