Program description

At Keele University, we’re different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. We proudly rank 1st for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey for the last three years. This is because it’s more than green and lovely, it’s a place of research and academic excellence too.

Education and Sociology provide the perfect combination if you are
interested in the connections between education and the societies in
which we live. You will study educational topics such as the nature of learning, the
history of education, and educational policies and practices that aim
to promote inclusion and social cohesion. Our Sociology programme
will provide you with a grounding in the core concerns of the discipline,
develop your skills in social research, and enable you explore a range
of contemporary social issues.

In Sociology you might explore issues
around migration, culture and identity, race, consumption, home and
family, globalisation, and urban life.

Keele enjoys high rates of graduate employment, where in 2016, were recognised nationally as 1st for employability in the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education survey. When you graduate, as well as the opportunity to pursue further
academic study you might also choose to do a PGCE and become a
teacher. Students who have studied these disciplines have entered
a wide variety of careers including local government, media and
communications, sales and marketing, banking, and the legal profession.
