Program description

At Keele University, we’re different. Nestled in 600 acres of countryside in the heart of the UK, we have a big campus but a small and cosmopolitan community. We proudly rank 1st for student satisfaction in the National Student Survey for the last three years. This is because it’s more than green and lovely, it’s a place of research and academic excellence too.

This course asks you to reflect critically on current issues society, applying
what you learn about business and politics, to challenge received wisdom,
and to think for yourself about how the theories you encounter help you
understand the world around you. Business and Politics are of vital importance to all of us in our daily
lives, and studying them at Keele emphasises critical thinking and how
knowledge crosses over traditional subject boundaries. These subjects
examine fundamental choices about the ways in which economic
organisations function, how societies are organised and the way we
are governed. It is about dealing with the impact of big issues such
as Brexit, the environment and human rights. You’ll explore ideas and
debates in organisational behaviour, accounting, marketing, and human
resource management, including decision making behaviour across the
private and public sectors. Your degree will be geared towards applying
practical, problem solving skills to these issues. You’ll learn to reflect
broadly on situations and to contextually apply what you know, whether
it be how to analyse a market for products or how to run a campaign
for election. You can tailor your studies to your interests, whether
theoretical or oriented to specific issues.

Keele enjoys high rates of graduate employment, where in 2016, were recognised nationally as 1st for employability in the Destination of Leavers from Higher Education survey. You’ll graduate as a confident, analytical thinker – a skill very much in
demand among employers. You’ll be interested in this course if you’d
like to pursue a career in management or self-employment. You might
work as a politician’s assistant, a researcher for an MP or think-tank, or
a public-affairs consultant. You could work in the civil service, in local
government, or for a campaigning or lobbying group.
