International Relations (PhD)

The PhD Program in International Relations provides a rigorous approach to the study of global affairs with a particular emphasis on security and regional studies. Students are expected to develop the substantive knowledge, theoretical perspectives and methodological skills necessary for conducting research and teaching in their field.

The PhD Program in International Relations is geared towards preparing students for a number of careers such as academics, and policy specialists in the government; media; business; and research sectors. Candidates will benefit from the knowledge and expertise of a distinguished faculty with particular expertise in International Relations Theory, Turkish Foreign Policy, International Security, the EU’s external policies, International Political Economy, and regional expertise on the Middle East, Europe, Eurasia, and the United states.

Admission requirements

The Interdisciplinary PhD Program in International Relations accepts applications from students with a degree from a four-year undergraduate program or Master's level graduate program (with thesis) without regard to their prior area of specialization. Those who apply to the program with an undergraduate degree must have a minimum of 80 points from ALES exam, and those who apply with a Master's degree must have a minimum of 55 points. Applicants must also have a minimum of 55 points from YDS exam. In place of ALES and YDS, applicants my choose to provide scores of tests which are approved as equivalnt by The Council of Higher Education.

Tuition fees

$12,000 per year

Qualification

The students who successfully complete the program are awarded an Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D.) degree (Level 8) in International Relations.

Program outcomes

  1. Offering new insight to the advanced terms and debates in International Relations through new studies
  2. Contribute to the field's advanced theoretical concepts and regional dynamics through offering new perspectives
  3. Utilize and operationalize the connection of the discipline of International Relations to other complementary fields of Political Science and Sociology
  4. Follow the discipline's new knowledge and techniques by using them in own research
  5. Be able to use multiple research techniques to provide new insight into the field's main debates
  6. Be able to use, discuss and critique research papers in the field's top journals
  7. Develop the discipline to run own research independently
  8. Discuss and debate the field's diverse arguments and approaches in a critical fashion
  9. Present and teach the field's advanced concepts in written, spoken and visual form
  10. Express the field's concepts and topics in at least one foreign language listed under European Language Portolio B2-level
  11. Develop technical ability to use computer, software and hardware as required by the discipline

Continuing studies

Students can apply for graduate studies in related programs.
