Applied Economics and Data Analysis

Make the analyses for tomorrow’s decisions! In this programme interdisciplinary modules in collaboration with firms and organisation help developing your ability to solve real-world problems by applying suitable economic models and methods of data analysis.

This master programme in economics continue to build upon what you have learned before by focusing on applications of theories and econometric tools. After a foundation semester containing microeconomics, macroeconomics, mathematics, and econometrics you will embark upon a whole semester consisting of full-time modules on current topics in economics such as environmental economics and transportation economics.

These modules combine economic theories, with econometric tools and real-world examples from firms and organisations. The programme also offers courses in programming and machine learning to improve your data processing and technical skills, as well as a 10-week internship to get more real-world experience.

Admission requirements

The applicant must hold the minimum of a Bachelor’s degree (i.e the equivalent of 180 ECTS credits at an accredited university) in economics, or equivalent. The students must have at least 60 credits in Economics. Furthermore, a minimum of 15 credits in mathematics/statistics/econometrics is required. Proof of English proficiency is required.

Program content

In this programme a 10-week internship is a compulsory course. This internship can be done anywhere in the world and is a great opportunity to further explore your understanding for how you can apply economic theories and tools to real-world problems.

Tuition

Tuition fee for the first semester: 75000 SEK

Total tuition fee: 300000 SEK

Tuition fees do NOT apply for EU/EEA citizens or exchange students

Qualification

Degree of Master of Science (120 credits) with a major in Economics.

Career paths

After graduation you will have the skills to work closely with decision makers, processing and analysing large quantities of data and communicating your analyses to managers. Future workplaces may be domestic or international companies, public organisations, aid organisations, and organisations like the UN, the EU, and the OECD. Possible occupations are e.g. data analysts, strategists, and business developers.

After graduation you will also be eligible for the doctoral programme in economics at JIBS, as well as many other doctoral programmes in economics all over the world.
